該唱片于1982年2月13日和14日在瑞士斯德哥爾摩的阿道夫?佛瑞德日科斯（Adolf Fredriks）的教堂現(xiàn)場錄制而成。
清唱?jiǎng) 稄涃悂啞肥前吐蹇藭r(shí)期德國偉大的作曲家亨德爾最為著名的作品，作于1742年。
“彌賽亞”一詞源于希伯萊語，意為“受膏者”（古猶太人封立君王、祭祀時(shí)，常舉行在受封者頭上敷膏油的儀式）。后被基督教用于對(duì)救世主耶穌的稱呼。
全劇分三部分，共有序曲、詠嘆調(diào)、重唱、合唱、間奏等57首分曲。第一部分?jǐn)⑹鍪胍d的誕生；第二部分是關(guān)于耶穌為拯救人類，
四處傳播福音以及受難而被釘死于十字架上的經(jīng)歷；第三部分則是耶穌顯圣復(fù)活的故事和贊美詩。這是亨德爾少數(shù)完全表現(xiàn)宗教內(nèi)容的作品中最出色的一部，實(shí)際上其中對(duì)音樂的戲劇性和人性的宣傳遠(yuǎn)勝于對(duì)宗教的虔誠感情。
全劇為主調(diào)和聲音樂風(fēng)格，以旋律優(yōu)美、和聲洗練見長。西西里民間樂器風(fēng)笛的使用在當(dāng)時(shí)是大膽而新穎的。由于其中不少分曲具有很高的技術(shù)訓(xùn)練價(jià)值和藝術(shù)性，至今仍在音樂會(huì)和聲學(xué)教學(xué)中被廣泛采用。
整個(gè)作品經(jīng)典迭出，美不勝收。其中“哈里路亞”一段，則更是以其震撼的氣勢，洗練而悠長的旋律，以及教堂圣歌的莊重典雅，而成為傳世佳作。
